my 7mm08 in rem mdl 7 with nice wood and a 18 1/2" bbl is a dream, once you get the heavy factory trigger fixed and a quality recoil pad. it is a bit loud but can be carried with 1 hand all day. I've reloaded ammo from 120gr to 175gr and never had a single load not shoot under 1" at 100yd's on the first try. the 7mm08 began as a wildcat by benchrest shooters, so you know it has accuracy, as does the 308. with equal wt bullets and guns I seriously doubt you could tell any diff in recoil. both have a good selection of bullet wt's and types and the 7mm08's are being carried in more places now. it's a closer call then the 270 vs 30-06. a total coin flip, or whichever you find a better deal on. I would go to a 20" bbl though. gunboy has a rem 700 mtn rifle in 7mm08 with an incredible trigger that I have a hard time believing is factory. the mdl 7 has a shorter/thinner bolt and is designed and built from the ground up for a short action. I'd try and find an old as possible rem in 7mm08 cuz they only came out around 1980 (or so). feel free to come over and try mine.
To close to call, recommended the 308 first because, no tienes, meaning you don't have one. I have both and the only difference between the two calibers is price of ammo and availability of ammo. Everyone carries. 308 ammo.
Well this is where I am at. I am sitting on 2 trade requests but both are for Rem adl's, one in 308 and one in 7mm-08. No one has come forward with a bdl or cdl or a Win 70. Regardless of what I get, I was planning on replacing the stock with a laminated thumbhole model. If I can get a really good deal on the adl, how much does it typically cost to get the bolt/action cleaned up and trigger lightened by a gunsmith?

This is my opinion, I wouldn't want to offend anyother Model 700 experts on the forum. If it's a newer 700 ADL or SPS plan on a different stock ($50-350) or having the stock bedded ($75-150), the action worked ($75-150), and possibly a trigger job or new triger ($50-150) by a competent gunsmith. Not sure such a thing exists in Central Florida, competent gunsmith that is... Or find an older ADL like the two TREEFARMER has and most of that wouldn't be required in my opinion. The newer 700 ADL AND SPS models have a terrible finish on them also, just ask CARLOS about that. On a used newer 700 ADL i wouldn't give/allow anymore than 250.00 in trade value for it.... Sorry, trying to type ome handed with my six month old son on my lap as he huffs and puffs filling his diaper.... Gotta run...
When it says 12-18 pounds on the side of the box of diapers...that is ALL they will hold. Trust me on that one
