O ok. Well strunes. You have to scout. Walk around and mark things with a gps. Remember things that are dry now might be wet soon, and things that are wet now might be flooded soon. Look for cypress. If you see them your probably in a dry swamp. Look for water rings on the trees and youll know if you need a canoe or waders to get in there when its wet. Look for trails, rubs, food supply, i mean its really not hard. In perry anywhere you put a feeder you will have game find it within a couple weeks. I would find a spot throw down corn and put up a cam. Check it in a week.
Thanks
Keep an eye on the tracks crossing the road. If you start to see a pattern of them crossing the same spot check the area out. I have found some good spots like that. Google earth is your friend. Look for the edges and funnels. A 2 to 5 yo clearcut can always produce especially during the rut. If you can find a swampy area with some dry land in the center that always seems to be a good bedding area. I've learned over the years to not really listen to other guys on the same lease. If a spot was really that good they'd already be hunting it for the most part. Use their advice as a starting point but put some time into walking the woods. I like to check my maps on my phone as I walk and check out different areas. Remember to find out where everyone else's stands are so you don't waste any time checking out a taken area. Good luck.
You are going to be at a disadvantage because hunting season is almost 3 weeks old, and everyone has their spots picked out.
Find you a spot that looks good away from other hunters, put a stand and a camera up and see what happens. Learn as you go.
What lease did you join? You can PM me if you don't want to post it
I'd opt for the clearcut this late in the game. Spend your free time checking out other areas and your seat time there. But, that's me talking about a clearcut I have obviously never laid eyes on...
