do you need to go to the check in station at citrus first at this time of year? is it even open? I only hunted it a few times later last year and the check in was closed, plus the check in is in the furthest possible corner of the wma from me, thanks.

It is quota permit only until small game opens Jan 10. I have a gun hunt permit for December up there.

HUNTERS AND CHECK STATIONS:
1. Hunting equipment and dogs may be taken onto the WMA after 8 a.m. the day before the opening of a season and shall be removed by 6 p.m. one day after the end of the season.
2. No deer or turkey shall be dismembered or removed from the area until checked at a designated check station.
3. Quail hunting is prohibited east of County Road 491 between Forest Road 16 and County Road 480

Doesn't say anything about the check station unless you kill a deer or turkey....at any time.

This is what Green Swamp's says, just for comparative purposes. They make it pretty clear if you need to check in or not.

HUNTERS AND CHECK STATIONS:
1.
Hunters shall enter and exit the area at a designated entrance and only during hours a check station is in operation.
2.
Hunters shall check in or out at a check station when entering or exiting the area, and check all game taken.
3.
Hunting equipment and dogs may be taken onto the WMA after 8 a.m. the day before the opening of a season and shall be removed on the last day of each season.
4.
No deer or wild hog shall be dismembered until checked at a check station.
5.
Check station hours are 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. during Eastern Daylight Saving Time and 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. during Eastern Standard Time, except during the small game season when hours are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

ARCHERY SEASON: November 13 through December 5. Permit, Stamp and License Requirements - Quota permit (if hunting during first 4 days), hunting license, management area permit, archery permit, deer permit (if hunting deer), migratory bird permit (if hunting migratory birds), and state waterfowl permit and federal duck stamp (if hunting waterfowl).

Just wanted to clarify that you don't need a quota during archery except for the 1st 4 days. My buds gonna be there Wed. after work and I'd hate for him to get into any trouble over it. I can't find anything on the check station either. He's gonna ride his bike for 10 min. from his house to his stand. Ain't that nice. :scooter

in citrus you only have to go to the check station to check in any game that you harvest. theres no need to "check in and out" cause theres so many access points to the WMA
