IMHO comparing a Mossy 500 to a Remington Wingmaster is like comparing a Honda Civic to a BMW 335. Both 4 door sedans, both get good gas mileage, the Civic handles alright, rides alright and shifts just fine and is relatively smooth to drive while the BMW handles like a race car, rides smoothly, softly and comfortable, shifts like a sports care, and has more HP and get up and go. Even a 870 Express out performs the Mossy IMHO since it's based upon the Wingmaster action.
The Mossy has a "sloppy" pump action and feels like a cheap "hollow" feeling gun to me when fired. Now I know I am gonna hear it from someone for these statements, but that's my opinion...
They all will rust if you don't care for them properly.... That should be the least of your concern... being able to shoot it and feel comfortable shooting it accurately is my #1 concern...
for that kind of money who cares if it rusts. I've been using 500's and 88's since 1975 in every concievable stock/bbl combo. even salt water duck/geese hunting a simple wipe down with some oil on a rag and I've never had any rust issues. I agree the older rem's are better but the gun and extra bbl's cost more I believe. I just stuck with m.b. cuz I had so many stocks, bbl's and parts. I know the m.b..'s have dual extractor rods, not sure of the rem's. police have long used the rem's, military now still uses m. b. and benelli. I really don't have strong feelings one way or the other. neither are "the best" and both will get the job done.
