I own two new ones currently and have owned an older one ,my brother owns two of them and my dad owned them. We have never experienced any problems with them, ever. Never, never, point a rifle at something you do not want to kill.Seeing how this story originated on CNBC,the most liberal, anti gun, anti hunting network in the world "NBC" it don't surprise. Seeing how you all join the anti-700 band wagon does surprise me.
kinda hard to argue with documented company memo's discussing the " potential " problems and in court demo of the A.D. I'm not denying the guns history of accuracy and fastest lock time and the fact that thousands of custom gunmakers use this action as the platform for their guns. it's still just a machine and when you make them in the millions you are bound to get a few lemons/poor tolerances or poor assemblies, throw in some poor cleaning/maintenence, user error and the sequence of events is set in place for the A.D. to happen. re-calls happen all the time with other guns and cars and what not. imo rem's poor mgt and fear of tarnishing their rep, more than the $ is why they played fast and loose with their customers safety.
i have a rem i'm not on the band wagon but will be lot more careful now around mine also it's hard not to listen to all the facts on the report. i guess some people won't listen till it happens to them ,but i would keep this in the back of my mind
use guns long enough and you will probably have some kind of mechanical or user error, from bad primers to failure to feed/eject, accidental discharges, cracked welds, broken/jammed springs, bent firing pin rods or extractors, worn/ broken plastic safety parts, etc etc. they are machines and subject to wear/fatigue and poor maintenance, build up of oil and crud/ whatever. I've had all the above happen from mfgr's such as ruger, mossberg, winchester and others over 35 years, but none so far from my remmington, but I'm not gonna say it aint possible.

It won't happen to me because I practice gun safety. All machines are bound to fail in time, including all firearms if they are worn out. Keep your weapon pointed in a safe direction always and always assume your weapon is loaded, always.
