Remington needs to fix the problem, announce the shortcoming, and get it over with. Otherwise, we're going to end up fighting another battle with the anti-gunners, because this just provides them with more ammunition, this time, against bolt action guns being unsafe. We know the truth, but we all also know the leaps the anti-gunners will take and what they will say. And, no court in the world can get them to "un-say" something or tell folks to "un-hear" it. I have 2 Remington guns, and after bit of info, they will likely be my only Remingtons unless the company steps up and accepts responsibility.

IMO for a while the rem 700's were amoung the best made at the time, now corners are being cut by all mfgr's. I think it's pretty obvious they had a design flaw, knew about it and thought it would be cheaper to let it slide instead of do the right thing and it has turned out to bite them in the azz and is going to end up costing them more $ and doing more damage to their rep then if they had just admitted the problem and fixed it. as for best of all time gotta go with mauser, but alot of good ones to choose from. in short action bolts I think the rem mdl 7 is the best because they went all out to design it from the ground up as a short action and everything is in perfect proportion. i bought mine in 1983-4 and afraid the barrel may be worn out now after app 15-20,000 rounds through it. I've reloaded some of the brass easily over a dozen times, and groups are starting to open up a bit, or maybe it's just the constant back pain and poor eyesight.
