Don't know what's in your safe or how you use them but imho you'd use the 30-30 more than the 45-70..
I've got 2 30-30's identical set-up and my dad has an older 30-30 in his safe too so I am good in the that department.
Take a look at this: http://www.marlinowners.com/forum/45-70-govt/90688-big-bear-down-1895-a.html
Very cool....thanks!
All this talk got me real curious about 45-70 rifle and cartridge.
I don't need a rifle in 45-70 and I already have a Marlin 336 in 30-30 which I think is much more practical for use in Florida.
I found a real good deal on a new Marlin Guides Rifle in 45-70 so I purchased it last week... it will come in this week.
I also ordered 250 Starline brass and several hundred 350 and 405gr cast bullets for it.
I have 4 or 5 powder on the shelf I can try.
It's going to be a real thumper... at both ends.

NICE! Let me know how it works out. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for the rifle?

By the time in gets in my hand I'll have about $470 into it.
