IMO, the a-bolts are better suited for an ultralight sporter in a short action caliber, so is the rem mdl 7. most people luv em or hate em. I do realy like the tang safety 2- positions on/off and quiet to use. the drop boxmag I could take or leave, easier to load/unload but something else to lose. the poor harmonics from a thin whippy barrel can be improved alot with a bedding job. the trigger from the factory is imo better on the browning lighter and less travel than the rem. but I am very picky about a clean/crisp/ light short travel trigger and the only way to get one on a stock gun is to replace it with aftermarket or have a smith improve whats already there. enough discussion now go buy whatever and start shootin, J.K.
Also, the Vanguard has an adjustable trigger. I'm not sure how to adjust it though, as it was set exactly how I like a trigger on a rifle.
adjustables triggers can only do so much, you can adjust pull wt to whatever the current legal limit is( too heavy) and the trigger pull travel length to a point, and one more adjustment I can't recall. but you can't make them smooth and slick with a clean crisp break without polishing or stoning the metal parts that contact each other. I never thought I needed one until I shot a gun with a good trigger, now can't live without one. for me it's about the best and cheapestt thing you can do to improve accuracy app 50$ I remember when I first bought my rem mdl 7 in 7mm08 and sitting at the bench pulling on the trigger for what seemed like forever thinking when the F is this thing gonna go off. thought I was gonna need 2 fingers. trigger and bedding job later and groups shrank from 1 1/2 - 2" to 1/4- 3/4" depending on me if I do my part.
Well I just bid on a Rem 700 sps on gunbroker. Pretty cheap 460.00 NIB. I can't take anymore shopping.
I used to shoot competition short range rifle and the vanguard's trigger doesn't bother me a bit. I really recommend a Weatherby product to those that haven't tried them...or I invite them to shoot mine. I'm super happy with the weapon...and though I don't have years of experience I've yet to see or hear of a Weathebry performing anything less than the 1.5" they guarantee....typically it's more like .75 inch or less at 100 yards...any what more could a hunter ask for. I can scan a target of my .300 weatherby vanguards targets and the piling bullets on top of one another if need be.
I know he's made his decision and posted it but, I figure friendly conversation/discussion can't hurt.
