All stand types have their place. Ground blinds are a blast, but imho you need to sett hem up 1-2 weeks in advance and brush them in. I've got two of them up now for a few weeks, and I have deer n hogs walking within 5' of them. But you have to pay extreme close attention to the wind while using them.
Climbers can't be beat. You can move around to tweak your setups, but sometimes finding a climbable tree can be a challenge. I have sat 1,000's of hours in my Summit viper
I use both stands and ground blinds built from surrounding materials, but prefer to be off the ground so: you have a greater field of view and time to make a shot, scent is dispersed better, usualy more comfort and generaly can get away with making more sound and movement. but safety is a real concern Off the ground.
My son is 13 so with practice i think he could climb. price wise I think we need to start with the blind. We are gonna share a gun so that would be hard in a couple trees. If he likes it then maybe for christmas we will get another gun and a couple climbers
i have a summit titan. You need to do it a couple of times.. and keep a harness on all the time. Its just natural reaction to reach down and try to straighten the bottom out when you first climb and that will tilt the top and make you fall (almost happened to me) But it it simple when you get the hang of it. i can fly up a tree now easy. Once you learn to climb and get comfortable sitting long enough you will go buy a summit if you hadn't bought one originally.

You will love hunting with him in a blind. You can get away with a lot more movement in on too.Gander Mt. has a real nice on for 100.00 real heavy material and waterproof. Easiest one I've ever set up and put away.
