"Crock did you mean mossberg 870? J.K., seriously you'll need a 12 guage with a 3"chamber minimum- 3 1/2 would probably be better." Got to call you out on that NAcho. I have a Remington 870 12 ga in 23/4" and it has piled up lots of game. Deer, hogs, and small game. Using slugs and buckshot for the deer and hogs. I've also killed a big buck with a 870 20ga and slug in 23/4". Obviously you can get more range and power from the mag loads but a 2 3/4" will get the job done just fine. A 4-10 with slugs is a bad little dude as well.

sure a 20 guage will get the job done in most cases in experienced hands. but if you could only have one shotgun the 3 1/2" 12 gauge would be allot more versatile imo especially for turkey, or if you ever wanted to try duck/geese. and the buckshot = gutshot comment I gotta tend to agree when throwing 12-16 pellets, maybe more depending on shot size, if the animal is more than 20 yd's away imo some of those pellets have got to go where you don't want them. thats why I'm trying the tri-ball, only 3 balls each larger/heavier than most sabot slugs, kind of an in between from buckshot and slug, they claim 4" groups at 40 yds and that's what I shot, more or less.

The hole my 12ga with cheap rifled slugs makes is huge, head shot, down for a dirt nap!
