Go to any cigar shop. They'll have it there. That's where I got mine.
Ohh and I saw a youtube video where a guy said he would bust up the Coleman mosquito coils and put them in the grid of his Thermacell (where the pads slide in) and then place a little piece of fabric over the grid to keep the pieces in place. He said it works just as good as the Thermacell pads since they have the same chemical as the pads.
Well, I tried it last week while turkey hunting. I'm pretty sure it worked to keep the skeeters away, but I'm not quite convinced that it won't spook game. I can clearly smell the pieces as they burn.
The guy on youtube says he's used it for years and it hasn't spooked deer, but who knows. Someone else should try this report what they find.
Lets end all the BS. Use the steps from a guide buddy of mine. EZPZ lemon squeezy.
1)Take the butane cartridge out of the thermacell.
2) With a pair of pliers, gently rock the metal nipple ( careful not to damage the o-ring on the nipple ) from the cartridge.
3) CAREFULLY use a small wire ( I've used things like a paper clip, small straightened fish hook and wire leader material ) and push it into the mouth of the butane cartridge. There is a very small, white gasket-like membrane you need to pull out. This is the trickiest part of the refill process and you'll screw-up a few times before you get the feel of it.
4) Butane refill cylinder. Buy it any hardware or camping store. Cut the tip at an angle / and turn the Thermacell empty cartridge upside down. Insert the refill cylinder into the cartridge and fill to about 2/3 allowing for expansion.
5) Remove the refill cylinder from the now 2/3 full Thermacell cartridge. Reinsert the metal nipple into the cartridge and tap it back in with a hammer or pop-it with a piece of wood.
As for the pads..... Thermacell uses Allethrin, which is a synthetic copy of Pyrethrin. Pyrethrin is a naturally occuring insecticide made from chrysanthemums. There are many different products that are Pyrethrin based. I've used a fly spray for horses and a non-toxic spray for plants that have pyrethrin in them. My best results have been from spraying the pad with a few squirts, letting dry (crystallizes ) and reapplying one more time. Keep the pads in a ziplock bag and use within the month.
before the thermacell we always used to burn those mosquito coils in the woods, they worked alright and never seemed to spook game. A buddy of mine has shot plenty of deer with a cigarette in his mouth

Ya know, come to think of it, back when I smoked, I harvested a lot more deer than I have since I quit. I attributed it to luck, but I think the more scent eliminating sprays and clothing washes, and different camo I buy, the more the deer know I'm in the woods. Or, as my FIL said, since I'm more careful with wind, smell, and sound, I'm not spooking as many as I used to, so I'm getting so close to them, that they see me before they hear or smell me, and before I see them.
