I've asked this before and never got an answer. anybody ever shoot a diamondback or cottonmouth with one of those pistol shotshells? after seeing that rattler crock almost stepped on I doubted whether the cci #9 shot would do the trick or not. I shot a 20 oz full water btl at about 6-8 ft today with a 357 round of #9's with my sp101 snubbie, and it knocked the btl off the post and had a decent pattern to point of aim that entered but did not exit the btl, I would guess at least 20 hits. further than 8 feet and I don't think I'd have to shoot a snake. would prefer 7 1/2 shot but don't know if it's avail. just looking for some first hand info. also if you have used them in 40 or 45 acp and how they function in an auto. thanks.
My honest opinion is if you need to shoot a snake why not just use the gun your hunting with? Unless you don't want to damage the skin.I really never had to kill any snake that I couldn't avoid if I wanted to.And if you get bit it I wouldn't be worrying about switching guns to kill it. I see absolutly no problem with shooting rat shot out of a pistol to kill a snake, just no good reason to carry for that purpose.

just get a stick. grab it and git r done. i shot mine cause i needed to shoot something out there already.
My 22 mag revolver patterns cci snake shot very well. It doesnt have the same effect on snakes as say a 410 shotshell but it definitely does the job. I like it because I am not extremely proficient with a handgun.
alot of times I go out to fill the feeder or scout/work on stands, whatever and don't wan't to tie up my hands with a rifle, or if my job takes me near an area I may want to stop and do a little scouting/exploring. I'm not looking to go out of my way to kill a snake, but if I do end up gettig bit I'd like to be able to get the snake to ID it for the docs. or while hunting with a rifle I'm not sure about being certain to make a head shot under that kind of stress. just trying to find out if yall think # 9 shot would penetrate enough to get the job done. the sp101 is easy to carry but only holds 5 rounds, I've been loading 2- snake shot and 3 180 gr jhp's.normaly if carrying a sidearm it's usualy my sig 220 45acp but not sure how the shot would funtion in an auto. thats why I'm asking.as I have a ccp I'm always carrying anyway. as for the stick alot of times my hands are already full carrying something else. I'd like to hear from someone whos actualy used it and how it prformed for them.
