I'm not sure what an Alaskan guide rifle is but two of my friends hunted with .375's for years. They were Marlin 336 lever action rifles and were just fine.Marlin discontinued making them and I don't think you can buy factory loads for them anymore. Other friends also used .444's and 45-70's for deer and hog in Fl.All Marlin model 336.
