my son in law wants to buy one of these rifles for deer hunting here in fl.i told him for what that gun will cost he could buy two guns that would more practicle for hunting here.i don't know much about the gun other than it is a dangerous game rifle, don't know if it is a long range or short range rifle,i told him you probably can't walk in most stores that sell ammo and buy any for that gun,he already bought a barska mill dot scope and doesn't even have the rifle yet,he used to have a 7mm mag. and complained about the recoil i told him wait till he shoots the 375.just hate to see him throw money away on something he doesn't need to hunt deer here. he just started hunting this year and may not ever hunt any where but here.

I pretty much agree with fldxt, but with a good boatail bullet and a 225 gr bullet going over 3,000 fps that should realy reach out there. that is a relatively light/short/handy rifle and would make a good guides gun as backup for dangerous game, but I'm sure theres alot of recoil and noise and am not sure how scopes would hold up. definately overkill for anything in fla. I own a 375 cal winchester xtr lever with open sights that pushes a 220 gr flat point at about 2100 fps with the recoil being about the same as a 30-06, but thats not in the same league as the 375 ruger. at close range I like to throw a heavy bullet and high velocities are really not needed. if he realy likes those "flying ashtrays" theres a remmington mdl 7 short action in 358 mag (I believe) that will let you throw 200-300 gr's at up to 2500 fps ( don't quote me on exact details) where the recoil won't be as bad.whatever floats your boat.

thanks for the input,so far can't talk him out of it,told him to buy what he wants, just make sure you use your safety harness in your tree stand i don't want to find you laying on the ground and have to carry you out of the woods.

for that money he could buy a shotgun,308, and a pistol. but whatever blows his skirt up, the animal will be just as dead, but with alot more meat wasted possibly

That gun posts 41 pounds of recoil energy. For comparison, a 30-06 has around 20. A shoulder breaker for sure. No way, no how would I shoot that gun at a Fl deer. Deer are not that hard to kill. He can buy a 30-30 for 1/2 the price of that gun, ammo for half the price, and still kill a deer just fine. And like mentioned, the scope he pre-bought will NOT handle that charge

I strongly suggest talking him out of that gun.
