I have a couple savage rifles and love them all. Very accurate right out of the box and very durable. I have the Model 10 in .308, it came with a Nikon Prostaff BDC scope already mounted and I couldn't be happier with that package. I have not shot the Axis yet but I have heard some pretty good things about them, especially for the price. Try the Ruger American as well.
agreed on savage, I have an older 116 in 7mm rem mag, very accurate, very durable. If its going to be humid or rainy, I take it since its stainless on syn stock.
I got the savage in 3.06. I really liked the way it felt. He threw in a box of fed prem ammo and a hard case. Now if I can just get out and shoot it
the 06 will recoil considerably more than the 08. be sure to tuck it into your shoulder and keep your cheek firmly on the stock when firing it, relax and don't choke it to death. you will get used to it. enjoy and good luck.
You did better getting an -06 than a 308 in my opinion. Congrats!
Went to range and played, I allready love it way different from my 12 gauge
