how would orange help me if i shot my leg off?

Private land does not have a bunch of yahoo's running all around you like public land, it is more controlled and much safer. Conditions at the lease determine if I wear it or not. I am not saying not to, it is a personal choice on Private land, the rights I fought for.

NOT TRUE, on the private land I hunt in bkvl I'm supposed to be the only person there hunting and have heard and seen sign of many tresspassers/poachers that sneak in, and have even had bullets whizzing past me while up in a ladder stand. thats why I wear orange ( gives them something to aim at J.K.), and would help anyone trying to find you if you got hurt somehow.it all depends on which piece of private land youre talkin about, theres plenty of drunken a-holes riding around in trucks with guns that do so because they think they can get away with it and it's ok if on private land. private doesn't mean safe.( btw the don't come running to me was a joke ) and as I've said before do what you want I don't always wear it myself, but would everyone be safer if they wore it always, absolutely.

It's the law in Florida to have five hundred square inches of blaze orange visible above the waist in Florida on both public and private lands while deer hunting; except during the period of the general archery season or as otherwise stated during late season archery hunts on WMA's.

Err on the side of caution...wear the orange!

While I believe it should be worn by all during gun seasons, here is what it says in the 2010-2011 Florida Hunting Regulations:

Hunter orange requirement
It is unlawful to hunt deer or to accompany another person hunting deer on public lands unless each person is wearing a minimum of 500 square inches of daylight fluorescent orange material as an outer garment. Such clothing must be worn above the waistline and can include a head covering. This rule does not apply during archery season.

Toby, do you know of a specific regulation somewhere that says it is mandatory on private land in Florida?

The 2010-2011 regulation book is for ALL lands private or public unless otherwise stated in the accompanying hunt map ahnd regulations available for each of the public hunting lands, whether they be city, county, state, or federally managed properties.

When not on public land and abiding by the rules an dregulations unique to that parcel, the general hunting regulation that you find in your 2010-2011 pamphlet apply.

If still in doubt, don't take my word for it, contact FWC Law Enforcement Officer Linda Lewis at linda.lewis@myfwc.com and ask her. Or call the FWC office in Lakeland at 386-758-0525 and ask the folks that will be writing the citations.

If Linda told you orange is required on private lands she is wrong and needs to have her rule reading clarified. The statutes clearly do not require orange on private land.

Not talking here about what is good or bad but the requirement only.
