Having certain clothes for deer and/or hog hunting is understandable, but they don't HAVE to be camo. However, it's a good bet most hunters will be wearing some camo, since clothes designed for hunting tend to be such. Old military non-dress uniforms are great, as they are designed with things like durability, utility, comfort, etc. Those that are camo were made that way to make the wearer less visible to the enemy, not to animals.
Not moving and covering your face are the 2 best camo's
Saw a hunting show a couple years back where guys were sitting in box stands 1000 yards apart, and you could see the guys face shining like a beacon from that distance
Watched a show the other night on outdoor channel about what a deer can acutally see. They say they can only see 2 colors out of the color spectrum (forgot which ones). where we can see 3 if not color blind. But they said their eye's are made to see movement very efficiently. and also they said they have difficultly see blaze orange.
Shades of blues and yellows are what they see....(supposedly), as I have killed a hundred wearing jeans. Most of the time I do slip on a pair of leafy pants over my jeans
Deer also have very limited depth perception, so anything that breaks up your outline helps hide you. Like most prey animals, their eyes are on the side of their heads to give better peripheral vision for spotting predators. They pick out movement really well, and have about a 300 degree arc of effective vision, with a small blind spot behind their head. So be still, be quiet, and lay off the Irish Spring and Old Spice!
