Hey gang. I own a Mossberg 835 and I'm thinking about getting the slug barrel with the integral scope base (and scope). Has anyone owned this, or shot one of the 835s or 500s with this set up? If so, what are your thoughts? Thanks.

I bought one last season and shoots great . I sighted mine in at 75 yards with 3" Remington Rifled slugs . Shot 3 hogs with it from 20-90 yards . Dropped em in their tracks , scope is good too

by the integral scope mount do you mean the cantelever? in mdl's 500 I've had all 3. the smoothbore 24" bbl pump with open rifle type sights. my first gun and when young was good to 100 yds with rifled slugs. made my longest 1 shot kill with it and it was my only long gun for app 10 yrs. 2 bbl's and I could do it all. later I tried the rifled slug bbls in bolt action, scoped (most accurate), pumps: cantelever with scope (ok imo), then had a one piece mount directly on the reciever (some models have tapped threads there for scope mounting), more accurate than the cantelever imo but the gun is dedicated to a scope then, if you change bbl's it's still there. all will give pretty remarkable accuracy from 0-40yds with about any ammo. for 100 yds my best were 3" maybe less on a good day with federal premium sabot slugs with the barnes expanders in them. (now close to 3$ each). the smoothbores are a lot lighter and if you can keep shots under 50 yd's (not hard to do here), put some better quality aftermarket open sights on it you could use it with the less expensive sluggers or buckshot without changing bbl's and save money on ammo and sights and still be able to hit just fine.the cantelevers imo vibrate like a tuning fork, does it make a lot of difference, not really. if I were to get another slug gun I'd look real hard at a 20 gauge the ammo has really come a long way and recoil is much less.

I thinking of one for my 870 over 100 dollars cheaper than a Remington oh and it includes a scope.

Thanks guys. I figure for about $200 I can get a rifled barrel with a scope. Cheaper than picking up a rifle I'll rarely shoot. Nacho - I'm talking about this.
