Thanks.....Killed a lot of deer on these plots over the years......now I try to hunt more off the plots to let the deer have em...but whenever theres a guy who has never shot a deer, I put them on a plot....for sure they see does and in the rut....the bucks always check the plots for does...

I was more thinking about planting the plots in the spring to hold back the weeds and provide some good nutrients to the soil when I till em under. We have a LOT of browse on our lease. I haven't ever seen such a high concentration of different berries: muscadines, blueberries, black berries, wild grapes, etc. I'm not sure how much the deer will hit the spring plots, but planting some high protein greens and establishing some good mineral licks should boost antler growth and overall health of the deer herd. And it can't hurt the hog and turkey population either.

You are right on the money....in the fall the plots dont really start drawing until after all the natural mast...acorns, berries, perssimmon, grapes, etc. etc. are used up....but like you said, it does improve the overall health of the herd, gives them something through the winter, etc....we have seen the body size and antler size of our bucks improve since starting to do all this 15 years ago.....and we also provide the mineral and salt....anything to help the deer....and you really will see a difference but if you over hunt the plots, the deer pick that up real quick and stay off them til dark....as far as the spring plots.....if you plant something with sorghum, sunflower, soy bean, peas.....the deer have a hard time saying no to these... earlier this year I watched 17 turkeys feed for about 30 minutes in one of my plots so it also helps to keep more birds around.....just my two cents.....
