say you knew a good spot that's dropping acorns and were going to hunt it. Then, you wanted to supplement the acorns with something other than corn as it's not an option anymore. I was thinking soybeans might be the next best option. Any suggestions?
I would use a protien feed, dog food, something like that trying to get the cost down.
Fertilize the oak trees around your stand(s) with a good 10-10-10 or 13-13-13 fertilizer next month. fertilize the distance of the canopy.
Fertilize the natural browze around your stand(s) with the same fertilizer in May and September. Doing those 2 things, deer will walk by other oak trees and browse to get to what has been fertilized. Guaranteed. That is the oldest, easiest, and cheapest way to do a natural food plot
Not sure why they are making a rule on no corn. I don't understand the principle behind it. But you can use a high protein goat feed. Get it at Tractor Supply, like $10/bag. Deer will flat tear it up.
Also soybeans but they are big $$ per bag. and you sorta have to train the deer to eat them. And any of the protein feeds, but be careful using them in a spin feeder unless they are moisture resistant. They will clog a feeder up in no time
Well they are banning corn in camp miz, sandhill, and three rivers next year so I'm going to need to improvise. I don't really depend on corn as my main food source but for archery I do need the deer to stop and feed. Usually I take a handful of corn to the stand with me just to insure the deer that come in will stop for a shot, if needed. I've been fertilizing my oaks at their canopys for several years now and it does seem to help a lot too.
I just hope that they go back to growing large food plots throughout our lease like they did yrs ago. The herd was very healthy and it seemed like every does had 2 fawns. It was definitely helping the herd....
The protien feed or a pile of dog food or birdseed will do to stop the deer.
