When you pick a rifle up like that and shoulder it, does it seem to be what I call "nose heavy"?

I am a novice to flintlocks, and like I said it is one project I want to tackle in my lifetime

Some may seem to be, but there a BUNCH of variables. Typically the straight barrels will seem to be heavier but not so much nose heavy, just heavier. In all reality, if it's a well built longrifle it should be pretty much perfectly balanced when shouldered. This one is my heaviest rifle, yet I had no difficulty holding it ready for almost a not quite a minute or so I'd say, waiting for her to get in position. It's long but not really all that heavy....LOL!!!

Now, if you go right from a straight to a swamped or an octagon to round then yes it will definitely be different.

you guys using maxi balls or patched round balls? if a flintlock had the pan and flash hole straight behind the powder charge instead of at a right angle, would that make it an inline? IL2H, we used 00 buck pellets patched in a 36 cal but wouldn't recomend you use em for anything over 30-40lbs.

We were using patched round balls. The rate of twist is too slow in these barrels work well with a maxi. I'm not 100% sure right off the top of my head exactly what this one is, but I'm pretty sure it's 1:60something or slower. I don't use maxi's but I think they need something more down around the 1:40's or so?

Patched round balls are very effective. My friend had a good pass through with his, lots of blood. Mine didn't pass through, but she dropped in her tracks too.....

As far as the inline question, if it's got an enclosed ignition, a plastic stock, and scope it might be one.... 🙂
