How primitive is the camping out there?
Very Primitive

I am used to having to bring everything with me and taking everyting out when I leave.

no

Are open camp fires allowed,
yes

are there existing fire pits set up at each site?
no

Can you gather wood there or do you need to bring your own?

The old days like as when non-hunters were living there free for 9 months and hunters had no space to camp?

Trust me I experienced it for one season and wasn't pretty. I've made a lot of friends there during the past couple of years and they all agree it wasn't the best arrangement if you were not one of the "lucky hunter".

I do agree the system doesn't work, but a "free for all first come-first served" no control is not the way. I'm guessing you remember the days with big refrigerators, generators, construction materials piled up and a lot more...

Well I was drawn for a site at rockridge which i feel very lucky, i set up my camper on Friday by saturday it was packed, Some folks are really taking advantage , most of the tem sites had 4 or 5 big p/u trucks on them very hard to locate the road in the campground... I have never seen in 5 years so many p/u's packed in the camp ground....too many truckes at a single camp site.. very dark at night , hard to see the road in the camp ground, i had to direct 4 or 5 guys at night to where the road was because some of these guys were blocking part of it....
