Been going a lot lately after the wild grapes all over the county. Seems to be a bumper crop this year.
So far I've got three two liter bottles of juice put up in the freezer for jelly and such and I'm probably going to go out and get about a five gallon bucket full for a little homemade vino.
Scuppernongs and Muscadines and I found a few concord clusters near the Hernando County line. All juicy and sweet; I got a colendar full that my little brother and I picked and been eating them for snacks while I work on the 'puter.
Lots of giid things to eat in the wild other than meats! :chef
The last 2 trips up to my house in Steinhatchee, I have sat at my back fence and ate scuppernogg's till my belly hurt. They dont do anything with them, they just fall off
I was at my lease this past weekend and all the grapes are played out for hunting anyway. I thought they would be but I was hoping some would still be available. All my spots the grapes had dropped and been eaten already. Oh well guess its palmetto berries and water oaks for the opener.
My lease is smack covered up with grapes, muscadines, blueberries, and elderberries. The blueberries are just amazing. I even found a spot on my lease where it is obvious a bear has taken down 2 of 3 main branches over 2" in diameter on one blueberry bush/tree, because the big blueberries were up over 6ft tall. I haven't seen this much browse in the woods in years.
I can't stay away from the blueberries. They ain't caused a problem. I limit the wild grapes and muscadines, so there ain't an issue there.
