Any Ideas?
Well from experience i can tell you.. Be neat while skinning. Dont keep your hands all over the meat.
Then take the meat as soon as you cut it off the body and put it on the tailgate and clean it with a hose right there and then. Pick off every hair and keep wetting down. Do this until you see no more hair.... Then do it again.. Then when you get home put it in the sink.. DO IT AGAIN.. by then you have no hair on it.
Im at the point now where i get less and less hair on my meat each time right off the rack. So it takes practice and being neat and keep your hands off the meat while skinning.
Oh yea after you ski it wash it down real good before you even quarter it.
I've been trying to figure that out for a long time.Hog hair comes off easier than deer hair, hose it down good.Usually the crap isn't a big problem got to wally world and git yerself a bung out.
I've only done one hog, skinned it and hosed it down well at the wma, threw it in the back of the pick up, got it home hung it and hosed it off again, then onto a piece of plywood between 2 sawhorses, covered in thick plastic and butchered it there. no hair at all. beginers luck again?I have had hair on some deer I did. I was thinking of bringing some dish soap and a heavy brush and shampooing it while hanging before doing anything. think thats too over the top? I had more trouble with sand/grit than hair.
its nice to have someone with a hose handy so they can spray off your hands and knives and the body cavity and such. like carlos said, take your time and be careful. some people do it pretty quickly and efficiently, just takes practice. a buddy of mine has his own technique and from hanging to iced down quartered in the cooler is about 10 minutes per hog, granted it looks like he just murdered a small village when he is done, but it is done and done quickly. im not in to that, i would rather take my time and make sure im not gonna make any mistakes. a hose and an extra person is a good way to keep the hair down though.
