How comfortable is your son shooting both?
Has he shot both?
Why not let him shoot both to compare patterns
I'd go with the 20 if he is comfortable with it, and it patterns better. how old is he? I have a sissy pad youre welcome to borrow.
How long is the barrel on the .410? We use to have a H&R with a 30" barrel full choke and I would have put it up against ANY 20 gauge at any distance. The gun was stolen in a home robery years ago and never seen another gun as well.

I'd go with the 20 gauge
Al my son is 8 and he's now getting comfortable with the 20 Ga . That's what he's gonna use this season to kill his 1st Gobbler . He would outgrow the 410 in no time . Also he can use # 6 or 7 regular shot instead of the heavy turkey loads . Just keep the shots under 25 yards .
