My Dad is a hard core 20 Gauge guy, ever since he got rid of his old 16 Gauge 870 back in 1982. They hold a close second to a 12 Gauge especially with a 3" 20 Gauge chamber, the right shell and shot size, and a choke that loves the right shell. He also has a slug barrel for his 870 and shoots NY deer with it in the shotgun only areas of the state. Nacho acquired a nice 1100 20 gauge from me, 2 3/4" only, but I know it will be a great turkey and upland gun once he gets out and patterns it and finds the right shell she likes for Turkey... He'll probably sell his Benelli 3 1/2" 12 Gauge once he starts shooting that 20 gauge... I have a 870 LW 20 Gauge 3" with a 23" VR barrel on her and it's one of my favorite guns I own...

don't hold your breath. it may kick like a mule, but I got it rigged for turkey and a rifled/scoped bbl for slugs and don't see it going anywhere. but I do need to get out with that 1100

Late to the party but my 2 cents. my wife hunts with a mossberg 500 20ga. sporting a HS turkey tube 26" barrel and winchester 3" #5 it pattern identical to my 870 super mag with kicks tube shooting 3 1/2" winchester #5. now it is less than half the recoil and a pleasure to shoot. She took a merriam in south dakota at 55 yards with it. Both her Oseaolas were at 35 and 5 yards. it flat smoked them all. the main thing is to find a brand of ammo and choke tube that shoot the best.

that first turkey I got last year with the 3 1/2" #5's really hurt for quite a while, so I was a little embarassed to admit I took a second one last day of season with a 22 mag to the back of the head at 75yds. I knew it was a tom but not that it was such a young jake. didn't want to post pics and get my onions busted for taking such a young bird with a 22.
