I called Mossberg and they told me I could use a xtra-full choke on the 26" field barrel, but I believe that using Mossberg's chokes am limited to lead shot. The article I read on Field and Stream magazine talks about " very dense tungsten-iron" shot loaded at slower speeds. I guess I will have to buy an aftermarket choke in order to improve my patterns. Any feedback on this?
I can't help you with a Mossberg, because I am a Remington man. I can tell you from my experience that the factory choke tubes, made by Remington, did not pattern with a darn in my gun
There are plenty of after market choke tubes to choose from for around $30-$50 bucks. From what I am reading the 20ga guys are loving the Hevi-13 magnum blends (#5,6,7)

Yes, that is what I figured..if I can pattern decently at 30 yards, it should be plenty. The author of the article I read claims his 20 gauge, with a Hunters Specialties Undertaker choke, will pattern well up to 50 using tungsten (heavy) shot. I believe I will be making a decision soon, and most likely is going to be a Mossberg combo or a Remington 11-87.. I will buy a rifled barrel first and then get a turkey barrel latr on if I go with the remington.
If it were me I would spend less money on the gun and more money on equiping it to be a turkey killing machine. Figure out what gun you are going to get and go on Nitro ammo companies website where they have done alot of testing with choke and shell combos. You dont have to get Nitro shells just whatever choke they recommend will normally do well with any Heavy shot type loads which is what you were talking about in your above post. Like ILUV2HUNT said there are some true gun nuts on other turkey forums who are getting devastating patterns out to 50 yards with twenty guages.
