It also depends on what's happening when the animal dies.
A 180 pound boar shot and DRT is gonna taste better than a 100 pound hog that's been run 2 miles through the woods with dogs snapping him.
Testosterone, adrenaline, lactic acid, etc will all add to the gaminess...
I agree with you 110%.
I have shot every hog in the head and all were one shot kills.
I want my hog to DRT immediately... no tracking, no suffering and no "fight or flight" chemical dump.
Great to hear of another successful hunt! All the comments so far are just further proof that it is very important how game is treated both before and after the kill. What a critter has been eating, how old it is, all factor in to a final successful taste test.

:rockon :rockon you must be my brother from another mother LOL :cool2
I had one that was bad it looked just like a Razor Back. Other wise i put multiple 150lbs boars in the frig. I brine or soak all hogs in ice water to get the blood out makes them better.
A lot of the issues with "gamey" meat is the care and cleaning of the critter IMO. Gut it quick, skin it quick, get it on ice quick....let it age and bleed out in a cooler full of ice for 3-5 days and you are good to go.
That being said, I agree with allen, a rutted up, neck swollen to double the size, rank buck is worse than the biggest boar hog if ever eaten.
