Well...

I had a plan to kill a deer this evening. The plan worked, almost...except the deer walked out right on que..... and bedded down. I couldn't see it well because I was sitting in a chair on the ground (because of the wind direction and the locale of the trail they are using, I tried the ground approach)

I tried a failed belly crawl and ended up spooking the deer. Headed to the truck after that was over, and it was almost dark anyways. I had parked down the road a ways at the intersection of an old logging trail. I was getting ready to unlock the truck and thought I heard a hog grunting down the tram. I dumped off my pack, and snuck down there. By this time there is like 5 minutes of shooting light left. I got down towards a little field and sure enough, there stands the big boar with the white spot on his side we had on cam for the last month. I picked a hole and (went against my tradition of neck shooting) put the cross hairs right behind the shoulder and squeezed one off. I really wanted to see what these Barnes TSX would do on a massive boar hog, on a shot right thru the shield.
I will range the distance later, but I estimate it around 70 yards..

When I shot I sat him right down on his ass, and he got up and took off, but I was sure I heard him crash..
I walked down to where he was and I was losing light fast. I carry a very bright tactical light every day, and I pulled it out and flipped it on. Where the hog was standing, there was a spattering of blood....not a ton, but a good bit. i followed it about 20' with the light on, and it ran into a thicket (keep in mind it's extremely thick in here). I stopped and thought about it for a minute...realizing I am by myself trailing a very big hog not knowing exactly how he is hit. I was about to pull the plug, and come back at daybreak when my light picked up massive blood. I mean the flood gate opened up and the dog fennels were painted red. I followed the blood for about another 20 feet and it just stopped. I happened to look down and i was standing right next to the hog. He had run maybe 25 yards

I hate to be long winded, but wanted to give a first hand report on this bullet/caliber since this has been a discussion here lately.
These are pics I took. This is about as big a hog as you will shoot in the wild, and shot right thru both shields...
Yall make your own decisions on if a .243, and a Barnes TSX will do the job on a hog or not

BTW, I did not weigh it. It was late when I got started cleaning it. It is WAYYYY bigger than the 150 pounder and the 170 pounder I have already shot this year, so he's gotta way on the plus side of 200

Nice pile of meat! Sausage material plus. Is the Barnes TSX bullet a factory load or a hand load? Treefarmer

Nice! And may I say you must have been a butcher in a previous life. Nice job cleaning it.
