How do you get permission to hunt on private land?

I can't begin to tell you how many loudmouths, (especially in bars or where alcohol is involved) tell you they have land overrun with game and invite you to hunt "ANYTIME". then when you want to actually take them up on the offer they start hemming and hawing. a lot of getting permission is just luck and being in the right place at the right time and appearing consciences and responsible. I got mine without trying by going above and beyond for a patient and the family wanted to thank me. at the time I wasn't even hunting anymore and took about 5 years to take them up on the offer.
