Thanks for the help and the honesty. One thing that has me stumped is since I don't know many land owners how do I go about meeting them?
I think the best way is to find out through your friends and buddies who you know well.
I recently found 2 places through my friends.
I didnt get full permission to go hunt there because I don't really know those owners well so maybe after few trips, I probably will be able to tho
I got real lucky when i stepped into 2000 acres in Manatee county. I was referred to the land owner. I had worked as a hog hunt guide for awhile, and have a knack for finding free roaming hogs ( place i worked at was not fenced, didn't use dogs either, pure spot and stalk). After 1 meeting that took about 30 minutes i had a key to the gate. I do try and do stuff for the land owner ( mend fences, keep an eye on the cows ( for health problems) , look for sign of tresspassers, tractor work) . They seem to be happy with my abilities. I have taken right at 51 hogs off the property and have just gotten permission to do some deer hunting.
As other have said, finding private property to hunt is very difficult. Alot of it is who you know. Or who your buddies now. Network alittle. Get to know some of the guys at some of the feed stores, gun shops. Couldn't hurt.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I have a couple of people I will be talking with to try and get leads on a place to hunt. I'll post my progress.
I know we talked about this before. How much land do you have to have for it to be legal to hunt hog? I have got the OK to take hogs from some land that backs up to a state forest that has a hog season. They told me they do not care how I take them as long as I share from time to time.
