I would really like to hunt hogs throughout the year (just like most of us would) but I can't seem to get permission to hunt. I have spoken to some land owners and they already have folks out on their property keeping the numbers down. Some folks that I have spoken with have no desire to have anyone come out and thin the herd even if they are damaging some of their crops. Any suggestions on the best way to find and approach someone to try and get permission to hunt hogs on private property?

Not easy at all. I gave up after trying for a couple of years and joined a hunt club that allows year round hog hunting.

This is the same boat we have all been in at some time or another. Here is the deal man, you can't come on to my private property without me knowing you very well. There is not some body off the internet or some one I met at a buddies house drinking some brewskies hunting around my family or my live stock just because they want to hunt some hogs or deer or what ever. To many people before you ( nothing personal here ) have screwed it up before you got there. Some dip shit shot some thing or left his trash or made some one mad and that messed it up for all of us. I have been in your boat. You have got to get to know people and gain there respect, THEN and only THEN will you get to go. Good luck finding your honey hole but the truth of the matter is you have to put your time in.

You also need to realize that with all the fuss with hog hunting the past couple of years land owners know they can make a buck charging for letting people hunt, or selling the hogs they trap to canned hunts. Hog hunting rights is a business a lot of people are taking advantage of, which makes it difficult to find places. Also, as trapper dan mentioned, some people have screwed it up before.
