It was at least two feet long without the tail. I have never seen one that big or that pretty. When it first came at us it looked like a small hog.
It would have made a great mount if you could have stood the smell getting it to the taxidermist. Crock we have plenty of skunks in florida.
There used to be a lot more skunks in Florida, but their population has dwindled for various reasons.
I remember reading an article a few years ago about some study the U of F was conducting, trying to determine what was causing the skunks to disappear. At the time they were asking everyone to report any sightings or roadkilled skunks so they could get some stats. Never heard much more about it, but I know it's been years since I drove down the highway and smelled that distinctive odor.
I've seen skunks while trail riding in Sunrise, FL.

Out 72 on the way to arcadia we smell them all the time. My guess would be loss of habitat due to construction.
I saw one smashed on US 19 up about Otter Creek area on Friday. It was one of those "smell it before you see it" deals.
The management area I hunt has quite a few of them. Early AM driving in with the windows down you can smell where they are
