crock ,you used buckshot on those 2 hogs? 00 buck or what and 1 shot each? be honest. kemster thats why I'm still kinda on the fence of slugs vs shot, Im used to slugs and never not had a complete pass thru and it leaves a great blood trail if the shots a little off. but again I've never had a chance at a big hog. what do you think that one was, over 250? 00 buck is comforting in the thick palmettos esp in the dark. mostly I've been using the scoped rifled bbl and a sig/sauer 45acp for the thick stuff. what pistol would you recomend for hogs ( close ) ya think 357 with 180 gr is enuf? I'd like to keep the bbl length 4-6"
wasn't sure about my slug gun. called remington yesterday and took care of the problem. (barrel was stamped wrong, 18 1/2 bbl with rifle sights but stamped FULL choke.) will be shooting slugs from now on. I would guess that hog had to close to 300lbs if not more. any pistol would work fine. when i guided i carried a .40 or a 9mm. but would alternate rounds in the mag (FMJ and JHP) had .40 180 gr JHP glance off a boar's skull one time. (was charging) after that mixed in FMJ.
your 480, is that in a redhawk or single action and what bbl length? I think of that as more of a primary weapon then a back up
