I'm in the same boat brother. And with finances the way they are I can't afford a truck payment. One thing in our favor, our vehicles and house are paid for

i have 2 trucks. the wife drives an 02 nissan frontier with 195,000. the truck has never been used for towing and is all hwy miles mostly driven by my wife who drives like a grandma. tranny and engine are strong, but the ac is having issues, and it is losing coolant somewhere, i suspect the heater core. we are trying to decide whether or not to trade it in on a car for her, with payments, or keep repairing. i was hoping to get 300,000 out of this truck, and i have no problem driving without ac and it would keep the miles off my truck for a while, if we could save for a down payment. but times is tough. trying to figure out where to cinch the belt up ourselves. the combined mpg of our 2 trucks is about 35mpg. i figure if we get a 40mpg car we would save plenty.

I have a 2001 F-150 with 140,000+ miles so I know the feeling....but....I know two other guys, one that I hunt with quite a bit...They both had their motors replaced in their F150s by a guy in Seffner....just East of Tampa....He uses new Ford motors, still in the crate....and full price with install....my buddy paid about $4200 and the other guy a little less because he had the smaller V8....he gives a 100,000 mile warranty on the motor and so far, neither of these guys have had any problems at all with the job. One of them was 3 yrs ago, and the other was a year ago...I plan to use him when I do mine...from what my buddy says....he only does Fords..

My buddy says he thinks the guy will also put in rebuilt motors, but isnt sure about any warranty or other info on that...

This guys name is Curtis....dont have the last name, he has a shop in Seffner and his number is 813-990-9348

Hope it helps...good luck.

If you can afford the work to get done do it at the right deal. Even if you need a small loan to pay for it..It sounds like alot of moneyput into it so far and that money would be wasted if you dont keep it....I'm a car salesman and even I say keep it if its paid for. Drive it until it just cant go no more. My .02 cents
