yep the shop at the end of my street told me i needed new front brakes rotors calipers and rear breaks on my truck.
I am an ex ASE certified mechanic,
I had just done the breaks on the front 6 months before. The funny part is they said I need new rotors because you cant turn them. Went on to say there made to be replaced ever break job.
By the way this is a 1990 ford bearing inside the rotor with a grease seal and cotter pin. same set up was used all the way back in the 70s.
i understand upselling, and i get it, but seriously some people need to figure our that everyone that walks in wasn't born yesterday.

This is so true, there is no need to be deceitful about it. The problem is the reputation of these guys has gotten so bad that when you do have a serious issue that needs to be addressed immediately, you do not believe them. Its the whole boy who cried wolf syndrome.
There are good places, and bad places.
I used to work at a tirekingdom for 4/5 years. Wasnt ASE certed because I knew I wouldnt do this for my life, just as a hobby.
If we EVER had a manager that would yell at a customer or rip him off, my store manager would have fired him on the spot.
Places like you went to, we just gotta spread the word, and either they'll figure out they are scam artists and stop their ways, OR they will go outta business and leave the shop to be bought by a better company :shifty
Yeah it's bad everywhere and around here also. I have a similar story myself.
My family business is a dealership first off so I have been around vehicles forever and know how to do alot of work myself. A former service manager works for this tire shop now and my buddy was telling me how great and quick it was so I used them once from his reccomendation. All I needed was my mud grips mounted on my rims that I bought off my buddy and we both had the same truck model and style and didn't rub or scrub.
So I get a call from the former manager at our shop that now works there saying he needs to put new shocks and a lift keys on the front of my truck totaling $565. I laughed and said you're joking right? You fully know they'll fit and they're mostly on every stock truck around and all I run is 285/75 or 305/70 on my trucks (which he fully knows to begin with as he worked for my family for 25 years). He said well we can't fit them on it without the lift. I said it has the SAME SIZE tires on it now and they fit lol! So I was then fully ticked off and told them to don't worry about it and I carried it to our normal tire shop and they put them on it no questions asked.
My buddy dealt with them once more and they fully reamed him on an A/C service charge so he doesn't deal with them anymore either. I won't name any tire shop names but it's the only one in Perry,Florida on US 19 as you come into town from Tennille/Cross City. If they'll try and rip me off knowing my past I can only imagine what they would do to unknowing people.
