I started last year. printed an xcel sheet with all kinds of info on it. I filled in a sheet for opening day of archery. i have over 100 blank pages after that.lol

I tried an Excel spreadsheet but figured out that unless I take the computer to camp, which I don't usually do, I end up not doing it. After I went back to the old time pen/paper strategy, I have something to do at the end of the day when at camp or after returning from a scouting trip. My plan is to pass my notebooks to my sons, and that is why I keep it simple. My notes usually look like the below, the little circles on the right are suppose to be moon phases :eek

Thats pretty close to what I was thinking + adding a couple of paragraphs about how the day went. I think a narrative will really relay the enjoyment and lessons learned to the next generation. Without fail, there is always something that happened at deer camp that needs to be retold.

Agree. I have small summaries of the day, notes to my sons, as well as one or two biblical passages for guidance. I want them to feel the same way I was feeling when they are reading my notes. If anything, at least I want them to keep something to remember me by, who I was and what I believed. I'm on my 7th notebook and I'm sure there will be lots more.

I seen one of these leather bound journals for $30, I like the fact you can put a pic or a hand drawn map in it as well.

My biggest thing I wanted to keep track of in a log was deer sightings/time of day VS. moon phase/ vs. posted major feed times.

I have never believed in the theory of "deer walk & feed all night on a full moon" theory, and wanted to put actual sightings on paper. In fact, I think they feed at night more on a new moon, and my last batch of trail cam pics confirm it...but thats another subject. I need to get better at logging this stuff or making more of a note on game cam pics

I was in a westervelt lease (Bear Island in Panama City) and part of our lease agreement was we had to keep a log of hours sat/deer seen/times/deer killed.Because we had to do it, it took the fun out a bit
