If it leaks oil at all, don't use synthetic. If it's free of leaks, I highly recommend the switch....and like mentioned...you can go longer between changes. I just changed the oil in my 04 Silverado after 8k miles and I easily could've pushed 10k by the looks of the oil. Definitely pays for itself if you do your own oil changes...which I highly recommend. For what you spend at a oil change place for bulk conventional oil and a cheap filter you can buy good synthetic and a good filter and do it yourself in 20 minutes.

If it's a seal it's slipping by, makes sense.... I have no issues burning synthetic in my truck.

Put it on my truck once. 4 days later it was in the shop getting a new oil pump and oil pressure switch. No thanks.

Conventional oil is way better today than it was when the 3000 mile oil change was standard. Mandated standards are better. Big oil still wants you to use more. Really you can go 4000 to 5000 miles, and have no ill affects. I have a 1990 Chevy step 4x4 with 326,000 still running great. I did my changes every 5000 since it hit 150,000 or so. Figuring I would need new power at some point in the near future. That was 11 years ago. This truck pulls a trailer 5 days a week since 2001. Synthetic will not save you near term, or in the long haul.
