WASHINGTON --
The Smithsonian is reportedly interested in the hoodie Trayvon Martin was wearing the night he was shot and killed by George Zimmerman.
Lonnie Bunch, the director of the new National Museum of African American History and Culture told the Washington Times that he would like the sweatshirt for its permanent collection.
Bunch says it's rare to get an artifact that became a symbol of civil rights.
The hoodie is currently stored with other evidence from the case at the U.S. Justice Department, which is now investigating whether Zimmerman violated Martin's civil rights.
