I have been thinking on buying another .45 since I sold my last one some time ago. I still have a few wheel guns that I love, but every now and then I get a bug up my backside and I just miss the old .45.

I started looking around for one and was startled when I came upon an ad on Gunbroker.com for a Hi Point pistol in .45; it was listed for $179.00 New in the box!

I went to the Hi Point website and found that the SRP on the handgun is $199.00? A polymer frame, eight shot, .45 semi auto MADE IN AMERICA from parts MANUFACTURED IN AMERICA with a lifetime warranty!

Gotta be a catch somewhere to be NIB for under $200.

Anybody with any experience with them? Opinions please?

theres a south american brand 45 acp ( not taurus ) that is supposed to be very accurate and inexpensive, saw a guy at the range shooting one making one hole groups at 10 yds. I would expect to pay at least 3-4oo$ for anything worth having.

The Hi Point is a big, heavy gun, but it shoots surprisingly well. I have a .45 Hi Point, and bought it for $169 at a gun show about 3 years ago. I've put maybe 400-450 rounds through it at the range, both FMJ and HP, different brands, whatever I could get reasonably cheap. No feed problems, no jams, was able to hit center mass at 10 yards from the get-go. It ain't beautiful, it ain't for CC, it won't impress anybody, and won't win any shooting contests. But for under $200 you can get a gun that will shoot when you want it to, shoot just about any ammo you want it to, and deliver a potent round to a target within reasonable range. Just 2 cents worth from someone who actually owns one and has used it a few times.

Thanks for the first hand input.

I'm really skeptical about such an inexpensive weapon...but then again, for the job I would want it to do; just make lots of noise on the range I'm not about to buy a six hundred dollar weapon.

Kimber = Mercedes Lol, I drive a 2000 Dodge Ram pickup. If I spent the kind of money Kimber asks for a go outside and waste ammo gun; I'd need my head examined!

My CC weapon is a Rossi .357 with a ported 3" barrel. My hunting revolver is a Colt Python .357 with a 6" barrel. I just wanted an autoloader to play with; I'm going to get the Hi Point just for the heck of it and let ya'll know what I find out.
