I was just out on the FWC site checking into spec oppty hunts and fishing licenses this year, and I ran across this. Somebody please tell me it ain't true. With the economy being what it is right now, they decide to increase what we have to pay? Are these elected officials?
18. Are there other changes to license and permit requirements for other activities, like hunting?
Yes. Other permit fee changes that were requested by several hunting, fishing and conservation organizations won't take effect until July 2010. They include increases in
* the state waterfowl permit, from the current $3 to $5;
* the resident turkey permit, from $5 to $10;
* the nonresident turkey permit, from $100 to $125; :clap
* the wildlife management area permit for hunting, fishing and other recreational uses, from $25 to $30;
* the limited-entry or special-opportunity hunt fee, from $100 per day to $150 per day and $250 per week to $300 per week, as determined by FWC Commissioners;
* the snook permit, from $2 to $10; and
* the lobster permit, from $2 to $5.Also, starting in July 2010, the law creates a $5 annual deer permit (required in addition to a hunting license for deer hunters unless they are exempt from license and permit requirements) and allows the agency to charge up to $5 per day for non-hunting and non-fishing recreation on certain wildlife management areas. The FWC will evaluate areas where the FWC is the lead manager to determine where to charge the fees and how much to charge.
In addition, up to 10 percent of the hunting and sport fishing permit fees are to be used to promote those sports, with emphasis on youth participation.
I actually don't mind the fee increases when the fees are utilized properly. If the monies are going to improve fishing and hunting, then so be it. Its just my opinion (although some on here won't agree), that the FWC has done some good things in the last year and more good things in the future. Look, I hate taxes and increased costs just as much of the next guy. But hunting and fishing is my passion. If It costs me a few extra bucks Ill gladly pay it IF the monies are utilized properly
One thing I had asked for was to increase the fee of out of state turkey permits up to about $300. We get bombarded with out of staters coming here to shoot an osceola
Agree on the non res fees. And, yes, if they use the fees the right ways to improve hunting and fishing, it's cool. But, IMO, they just increased em to fill the budget. They'd be better to use the money to crack down on poachin.

Let them do it if it goes back to fishing and hunting. time to start seeing some changes around these WMAs :shifty :clap
