My advice... If you have an archery shop close to you, stop in there. Browse around and try out any and every bow that's in your price range. Find one that suits your need. There are plenty of options at $400-500. But remember, if you buy a $500 bare bow, you'll still need to buy a sight, rest, peep, release, arrows and quiver. Those things can add up quick.
If it were me, I'd buy from the archery shop. They'll give you more information than any Bass Pro Shop will and usually waive any setup fee if you buy a bow from them. But, if you're getting gift cards, you may not have that option. Keep this in mind. It may be worth it to spend a little more in the archery shop.
A little more to think about. If you like the Bear brand, check out their Bear Charge- $299.99 or their Bear Strike- $399.99. I almost bought one of them before buying my PSE.

You won't find one brand new for lower than this. I have this bow and a few other guys on here have this bow. I love mine. I can see myself using it for the next few years.
