Did the same thing way back in 74 up at croom one of those deep holes full of water and Dad said yea this Mercedes diesel will go through anything. Wrong had to walk out to the rangers house and he pulled us out. Started right back up and made it home but starter was gone. If you put the air filter under water sounds like mabey bent rod as water won't compress. If the oil is white on the dipstick afraid you are in trouble. Get it checked to be sure my be something else. Gona be like the shoe repair but worse.
bent rod? no time for jokes now sounds expensive. just got home from auto parts store and was told to "pickle the engine". bought new air/gas filters oil, fuel additive. air comp pulley wasn't spinning last nite but a/c was cold and belt not hot. from the sound my gut feeling agrees with bent rod.
If the engine was hot and you entered water and now you have a loud noise, I would say you may have cracked the exhaust manifolds, at least without looking or hearing it.
no oil leaking. and the oil on the dipstick looks good. the clutch on the a/c compressor now spins when a/c turned on and gets cold. all electrical seems to work. changed the air filter and added gas treatment so far, but don't want to waste any more money if a rod is bent. and just spent about a grand on all new ice cold air and 4 new top of the line michelin tires.plan on taking it to my mech when the wife gets home. this may slow me down from whooping some butt in this competition if I have to ride a bike to my hunt spots.
is the noise a knocking noise or a squeal. does the noise get louder and faster when you give it gas? did you notice a change in the way it drives? im thinking that if you submerged the engine it would have hydrolocked and wouldent turn over at all but anything is possible.
