An old Ruger Security Six 357 I have carried for 40+ years. Never needed anything else.

I want to use a couple snake shot then 180 gr hornady xtp's in mine and all rounds are going high left. it's at the smith now getting a taller fiber optic sight I can actually see. think it will be just the ticket.

if i had my choice of sidearm, it would be a revolver chambered in 44mag or 45 lc. The 44 mag would make it easy for me with ammo cause the rifle i carry is a 44 mag also.

44 special or 45lc would make a good choice, but I'm talking 4" bbl tops, easy/light to carry and not specifically intended for hunting, mostly snakes/varmints or a game animal you stumble on at very close range. a short bbl'd 44 mag would be loud with a lot of recoil and more power than you really need at close range. not that it wouldn't work, if you want to deal with those issues. I don't see the point of doubling up on the same caliber, unless say the rifle was scoped. as just about all of us over 40 y/o probably have some hearing loss already, it's always in the back of my mind especially when it comes to porting.
