What do you want it for? Hunting, clays or home defense? I'm a Winchester snob and wouldn't recommend a 1200 or 1400 to anyone for any purpose. Winchester was on there way out of business when they built those guns and it shows in their quality. Find a used Remington 1100 for under $400 and you'd have twice the gun.

imo with shotguns fit is everything. if it fits correctly it should hit where you look and come up like it is part of you, and might come in ANY price range or action type, if you find one grab it and don't let go. for semi's I like the benelli inertia system that is strong/simple and reliable, even if it recoils more than other semis (the stoeger is an almost identical duplicate of the benelli). you can't go wrong with any of the three B's Benelli/Browning/Beretta, but they are pricey. older remingtons are good, the 1100's are excellent and possibly the best value of cost/vs quality in a used one. the winchester 1400's I hated (they jammed alot). I grew up using pumps and they can be good (older rem 870 WINGMASTERS, NOT the newer ones), even the mossberg 500's and mavericks will get the job done. for me once you go semi it's hard to go back to a pump. contact gunboy some of those old mdl 12's are really something to behold, built like tanks, quality all the way and smooth as silk actions, but they are harder to find a 3" chamber and didn't make any 3 1/2" chambers (that I'm aware of) and that I have come to realize are not "ALL THAT", unless you love recoil. good luck and keep us informed.

sounds like i will pass on that 1400. i will wait for a rem 1100, or the stoeger m2000. i guess i will keep carrying this cheap mossberg in the truck, and woods, at least it is pretty accurate.

PM me your email address. I just bought a small collection that has an old 70's Remmy 1100 12 ga 2 3/4" vent rib 28" modified choke. Has the good checkered walnut stock and forearm. This is only a good one for you if you want a small project. Someone spray painted it green and it still has green paint on half of it. In my opinion a tooth brush with nail polish remover, Murphy's oil soap or other cleaner should clean it up back to near original. I can email you some pics and I would let it go for $350. Can't post pics to fohaf from my cell.
