I've never fired a 670 , but as I recall it is a cheaper rifle than the Model 70 Winchester but probably just as capable. Remington had the same deal about the same time. They came out with the 788 which was cheaper than a Model 700 but just as accurate, maybe even more accurate as its' lock time was faster. Google 670 Winchester, it's well spoken of.

X2! Treefarmer is 100% correct the Model 788 and 670 were both Remington and Winchesters way of ATTEMPTING to break into the "cheaper, more cost effective" market of bolt action rifles in the late 60's through the 70's, which by the way failed, since they quit making them both.

Some say the 788 could out perform the 700 and in some cases they did, but with a cheap birch stock, compared to an American or English Walnut checkered stock the 788 never was able to over come the model 700. If you could find a nice 788 in .308 and re-stock it with a higher end MCMillan you would have a good shooter. I'm not sure about the model 670 as I think Winchester made some changes to the action of the model 70 and created the 670, i.e. cheaper.

We see this same thing happening today with Remington in the Model 710 and 770 bolt action rifles, which is sure to also fail. The quality isn't the same, especially now. The 670 and 788 are both good firearms, lower quality wood was used on the stocks (cheaper) and fewer inspections (in the factory) prior to distribution. The action of the 670 is different than the Model 70 claw extractor action as well.

Hope this helps.
