So i have been looking at semi auto shotguns for a while now. I let a belgian browning light twelve slip through my hands, and dont have the money for the sweet sixteen i saw. have looked at a few semis at my local pawn shop, and shouldered them. So right now they have a winchester model 1400 for 249. i could probly get them down on the price a little, just looking for a little feed back on this gun. Should i find something newer like a stoeger m2000, or is the 1400 going to fit my needs. this would just be for home defense, and hunting.

My first 12G semi was the 1400.
It wasn't a "pretty" gun but it worked well and I never had any problems with mine.
Shot a lot of informal trap with it at our place.
I may be wrong but I believe it only comes with 28" barrel which could be a little too long for home defense purpose.

IMHO that price is a little high unless it's in very good-excellent condition. I've seen "average" condition ones for about $200.

i would say it is in average condition i figure i can get em down a few dollars. it will be more for hog hunting and small game or bird hunting than home defense... it would be backup home defense the pistols in my nightstand are first choice.

I shoot a Stoeger M2000 and it's a sweet shotgun . Normally use it for waterfowl and haven't had a single problem .

First gun I ever owned was a Remington 1100. I traded it for a rifle and a S&W model 1000. Traded the model 1000 for a mossberg 500.
The Remington was nice.
The S&W was a very pretty piece of crap.
Honestly though, for ruggedness and reliability, I prefer pump.
Semi auto shotguns are too sensitive to loads and need total break down cleanings to often. But that is just my experience with the two I owned
