A friend of mine had the 770 in 7mm mag. He went thru 4 of those clip retentions. Every one of them broke with very little effort or force to do it. I saw it break once myself at the gun range. When the last one broke, he sold the gun and bought a Savage

Before I started swapping stocks around on different models, I would contact Remington and see if it can be done

try talking with a tech support person at midwayusa.com they should be able to steer you in the right direction. that is a very popular/common gun and there are many diff aftermarket stocks for it. a good quality grained walnut is gonna cost you though, but nothing looks better. for all around, price and function I'd look at wood laminate or SOLID hand layed up fiberglass or kevlar. there are a lot of options.

Call Remington and ask them if a Long Action SPS synthetic stock can changed to a Walnut detachable mag stock and conversion kit. I am about 95% sure the 770 stock won't work on the 700 action but I'd call Remington and ask them.

770/710 are having all kinds of issues, that's why they are $300 cheaper than a 700 CDL....

Buy the kit from Cabelas and keep your stock. That would be the best thing to do IMHO.
