i have a savage model 99c lever action with a 4 rd. clip. well have been using only soft points in this gun because i have been told that if i use anything other than that, like say a ballistic tip or fmj or something similiar that when cycling the bullets it can somehow set one of them off. ive been told this by a couple people and wanna find out the truth. thanks in advance
The design of the 99 is superior to lever actions such as the Winchester 94 and the Marlin 336 because it can handle high intensity cartridges. It has several superior design features that make it more comparable to the Browning BLR and even modern bolt actions like the Winchester Model 70. The rotary spool magazine allows for the use of pointed bullets, which retain greater velocity downrange than the flat point bullets required by lever guns with tubular magazines

thanks iluv2hunt foe the info i appreciate it. Now does anyone know what is a good ballistic tip to shoot outta them?
What caliber are you shooting? Personally, I would stay away from ballistic tip ammo.. Some will disagree with me, but I have seen too many deer lost with them. Do a quick research and you will see all the horror stories.
its a .308, ive shot ballistic tips outta my .270 with no bad luck so far thank god
