Since the introduction of the lever-evolution ammo, HORNADY has pretty much stood the hunting world on it's ear, and I just wanted to put some info out there I have liberally stolen from the net. let me begin as always by saying these are JUST MY OPINIONS, and last time I checked we were still in the USA and could voice opposing opinions without retribution, so if you have any comments/insults or digs please put them in the pm section. the way I see it this is one of those times when you say duh, why didn't anyone think of that sooner.Hornady took the #1 classic hunting arm of this country, the lever and the most popular and best selling/game killing cartridge the 30-30 and invested some time, money and R&D into making it better. this was basically accomplished by 2- methods, IMPROVED bullet design and a new powder recipe to give "marginally" faster velocity at the muzzle. the advent of the polymer tip (which all aren't wild about, but that's our right), which is soft and flexible allowed Hornady to make a "pointy" sleeker spitzer type interlocked bullet, that could safely be used in a tubular magazine resting on the primer above it without fear of it igniting it. this resulted in a MUCH higher ballistic coefficient and higher retained velocity/energy and accuracy the further it traveled. the second improvement was to come up with a new "blend" of ball powders, that is still a secret for now, that give MARGINAL increase in velocity at the muzzle, but retains speed at a much greater rate than the old flat points the further they travel.for example at the muzzle the lever-evolution may only be "app" 100 fps faster than the old load, but at 300 yds it may be moving "app" 300 fps faster due to the new bullet design, greater retained velocity/energy, with a flatter trajectory and better accuracy.so Hornady did not re-invent the lever action, just improved the ammo it uses, which I am not knocking as it is quite a dramatic improvement in performance.

Very informative and I think you are right on the money! It did cost Hornady some coin to do it, but it appears they have made up there investment... Good information Nacho!

if you want to use a pointy/hard tipped spitzer type bullet in a tube magazine (either handloaded or store bought, if you can find them ) it can be done safely, but you can only use 2 rounds. 1- in the chamber and the other in the mag and neither tip will touch the primer of the other. I realize it's very basic stuff for our more experienced members, but some newbies may appreciate it.

I used the hornady 220 gr flat nosed in 375 cal to re-load for the mdl 94xtr, but unfortunately they have been discontinued. the xtp's I like for pistol re-loading. I doubt they will ever make a leverevolution in 375 cal. but they are expanding the line.
